Hybrid Cabbage for Anemia during Pregnancy

The Institute is doing pioneer efforts in the fields of horticulture and forestry.

The scientists of the University have developed a new seed of cabbage. This new variety of cabbage can remove the deficiency of calcium, Iron and Hemoglobin during pregnancy.

The scientists of Vegetable Science Department have developed a hybrid variety of Cabbage, the seeds of which are available now in the University.

The demand for the seeds of this hybrid cabbage is increasing. It is proving to be a boon for the farmers. The University is organizing the training camps for the farmers to grow this hybrid variety.

This variety could be grown in winters.

It took more than five years for the scientists to develop this hybrid variety. This new variety of cabbage has been named as Solan Bund Sarsoun.

The researchers of the Department of Agriculture have claimed that a cup of a soup and a little amount of cooked cabbage could replenish the daily needs of vitamin intake by 91.6% out of which 53.6% is vitamin C, B-6, B-2, B-1, potassium, calcium magnesium, Vitamin A, Zinc and folic acid.

This variety could replenish the deficiencies of anemia during pregnancy. It increases the immune system and removes the deficiency of blood in the body. It could transform the inactive cells of the skin. This cabbage could help to strengthen the teeth and bones too.

Dr. H.S. Kanwar from the Botanical Department said that a research was being conducted by the University on the variety of Chinese cabbage for the last 5 years.


This new variety of cabbage could be grown in farms, poly-houses, kitchen gardens and even in the flower pots.

Tinospora Cordifolia or Giloy for Anemia

With the change of the season several petty ailments afflict the people. So it is better to take care of the health and spare a little time for ourselves so that these ailments may not turn into serious diseases.

In traditional system of medicines several herbs and plants were used even for severe problems, but now the drugs and chemicals have replaced them.

One of such herb is giloy or tinospora cordifolia, the leaves of which are very beneficial for obesity and other diseases.  This vine is native to India and is also foiund in Sri Lanka and Mayanmar. It is also known as heart-leaves moonseed belonging to the family of Menispermaceae. The stem, roots and leaves of tinospora cordifolia are used in Ayurvedic system of medicines.  

The leaves of tinospora cordifolia contain rich amounts of calcium, proteins and phosphorus, while its stem contains enough starch. It has antiviral and antibiotic properties which protects the body from several diseases.
Some of the benefits of tinospora cordifolia are listed hereunder.

Anemia
The leaves of tinospora cordifolia increase the haemoglobin and strengthen the immune system. The leaves are taken with butter oil or honey to get the desired results.

Jaundice
The intake of tinospora cordifolia is very beneficial in jaundice. The intake of a tablespoon of the powder of tinospora cordifolia with black pepper and triphla or three fruits viz. Indian gooes berry, myrobalan and terminalia belericas (amla, hurd and behra) helps in jaundice.  
Inflammation of Feet

Tinospora cordifolia is very beneficial for the inflammation of the feet. Boil the juice of the leaves of Tinospora cordifolia with Indian gooseberry and the leaves of mergosa tree and prepare the extract. Take of 1-2 tablespoons of the extract thrice day, to get relief from the inflammation of the feet.

Anemia

Anemia is the deficiency of blood in the body. It is a very common malady. As compared to natural supplements the body fails to properly assimilate the nutrients from the tablets of vitamins, minerals, and salts.

The blood mainly contains white and red blood corpuscles. The former is responsible for the immune system of the body while the anemia is caused by the deficiency of red blood corpuscles in the body. 

Anemia is caused by indigestion, physical or mental weakness, excessive menstrual blood flow, eating habits, loss of appetite and failure to form the blood.


Hemoglobin is 80 to 100 % in the blood and the anemia is caused when it comes down to 50 to 70 %. 


The symptoms are the pale skin, weakness, tiredness, shaking of hands, numbness of hands and feet, menopause, etc.


The treatment includes the intake of sufficient fruit juice containing lemon, salads, vegetable soups, and enough iron. 


For the intake of iron, it is better to cook vegetables in the utensils made of iron. The blood is formed by natural iron contained in foods, tomatoes, raisin, date, and dry fruits.
